How Mindzilo works

A few minutes to set up, then a short round of practice each day. Here is what happens, step by step.

Getting started

You set up on the web or on the phone, whichever is easier.

  1. 1

    Create your account

Sign up with Google, or with your email and a 6-digit code we send to it. There is no password to remember.

  2. 2

    Agree and add your children

Read our short privacy summary and agree. Then add up to 3 children with a first name or nickname, an avatar, the language they learn in and where they start.

  3. 3

    Choose your PIN

A 4-digit PIN keeps family settings on the phone for grown-ups.

  4. 4

    Hand over the phone

Sign in on the Android phone with the same account. Each child taps their own picture and starts.

The first time, and every day

The Starting check

You choose where each child starts. With the Starting check, the first time they play a subject they answer a few questions, stage by stage from Stage 1, for about 2 to 4 minutes. There are no marks and nothing to get wrong: it simply finds where to begin, so practice is never too easy or too hard. Or they start from the beginning, at Stage 1, and move on as they show what they know.

A round of practice

A round is 10 questions and takes about five minutes. Your child can earn rewards from up to 3 rounds a day in each subject. Each round mixes the skill they are working on, a quick review of earlier skills and, now and then, a stretch question.

Built around how children learn

Every round is chosen for your child, and every reward is earned by learning.

The right level, every round

Questions adapt so your child gets about three in four right: hard enough to learn, easy enough to keep going. Racing ahead brings a challenge question; a hard day brings a gentler round.

Learning that lasts

A skill is mastered after 8 of the last 10 answers are right. Mindzilo then checks it again after 1, 3, 7 and 21 days, so it is remembered, not just practised.

Hints before answers

Stuck? Up to two hints come first, then a worked example. Instructions are read aloud, so children still learning to read can play too.

Help when it is hard

If a skill is not landing, Mindzilo steps back to the skill underneath it and builds up again. You see it marked “Finding it hard”, never as a failure.

Mistakes are part of learning

A wrong answer shows “Not quite” and how to get there, then the next question. No red crosses, no scores to fear.

Works without internet

After the first sign-in, children can play offline. Progress reaches your dashboard when the phone is back online.

Rewards that come from learning

Children earn by getting answers right at their own level, never by luck.

Coins for right answers

2 coins for each right answer at your child’s level. Rushed guesses earn nothing.

A star for every skill mastered

Mastering a skill earns a star and 20 bonus coins.

A shop and mini-games

Coins buy 15 avatar items (hats, pets and backgrounds) and plays of 5 mini-games: Cricket shots, Build the tower, Market day, Number balloons and Sort it. Each lasts a minute and practises what your child is learning.

Days in a row

Playing on days in a row builds a streak. One missed day a week is forgiven, because life happens.

No random prizes and no real-money purchases in the children’s app.

English, Urdu, or English with Urdu help

Each child learns in the language they read best. “English with Urdu help” shows a small Urdu line under each instruction and hint, and long word problems have a switch to read them in either language. Numbers use the same digits, 0 to 9, in both languages.

You choose your own language too: the dashboard, family settings on the phone and the weekly report come in English or Urdu.
